Important milestone for Iceweasel in Debian
I just uploaded a pre-release of Iceweasel 3.6.4 to experimental. This is an important milestone for several reasons:
- Last time I was able to push a pre-release was almost 2 years ago. This means the keeping up with upstream is mostly done. This also means I should be ready to create a 3.7alpha5 package when upstream releases it.
- It includes a new feature: Out of Process Plugins. This means plugins instances are sandboxed and if they crash, they won't take the browser down with them (finally). In this release, only the Adobe flash plugin is sandboxed, but it should be enough for the vast majority of plugin induced crashes.
- Upstream is particularly interested in feedback from Debian (experimental) users for this pre-release, as they usually don't get much feedback from their own linux pre-release builds except from the test suite.

Hi there,
I’m the main developer of the Lightspark project, which is a modern, open source flash player implementation. Currently the plugin is mostly stable, but it still have some issue. It would be extremely useful to have the Lightspark plugin sandboxed as well. Is there any way to force sandboxing?

Is this 3.6.4 version will be in the Squeeze release ?

Alessandro: Check the dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.* preferences in about:config. You can do the same for your plugin.
egan: Unfortunately, no.

To make a long story short: It just crashes on amd64:
#0 0x00007ffff64d7f0a in js_DeepBail () from /usr/lib/libmozjs.so.3d

xulrunner package should depend on experimental libmozjs3d, otherwise iceweasel crashes at startup (as noted by Moshroum)

Hi,
I’ve managed to activate sandboxing for my plugin. But I’m having some issue with event handling. Usually I just register an Xt event handler to get the events. But doing this in the sandboxed environment causes a crash as it seems that Xt is not initialized. In there any documentation about what is the “right way” to handle input in this context?

Alessandro: You should check with Benjamin Smedberg, but I know Xt is not supported (yet) with Out or Process Plugins.

3.6.4 build 7 was released two days ago, while Iceweasel in Experimental is still stuck on build 2, when can we expect an update?

thanks for getting 3.6.4 final into experimental. It seems much faster than the earlier build.
