{"id":167,"date":"2007-09-10T20:54:55","date_gmt":"2007-09-10T18:54:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.glandium.org\/blog\/?p=167"},"modified":"2016-01-30T03:54:43","modified_gmt":"2016-01-30T02:54:43","slug":"webkit-and-the-acid-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glandium.org\/blog\/?p=167","title":{"rendered":"WebKit and the Acid test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Someone in the \"Why no Opera?\" thread on the debian-devel list mentioned  <a href=\"http:\/\/tkhtml.tcl.tk\/hv3.html\">tkhtml\/hv3<\/a>, and how it passed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webstandards.org\/files\/acid2\/test.html#top\">Acid Test<\/a> (though he didn't mention if it was the first or the second Acid Test).<\/p>\n<p>While it is a known fact that Mozilla doesn't pass the Second Acid Test yet (you have to use 1.9 alpha for this), it is also known that Safari has been for more than 2 years, and Konqueror, since version 3.5.2. So just to be sure, I gave it a try with WebKit (the one currently in unstable), and the results are... well, see for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>This is what QtLauncher display, when the window is quite large, which is just perfect.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/qtlauncher_acid.png\" alt=\"QtLauncher showing Second Acid Test\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, this is what you get when the window is not so large, but still large enough for the whole thing to be displayed.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/qtlauncher_acid2.png\" alt=\"QtLauncher showing Second Acid Test #2\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And what you get when you shrink the window more and more.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/qtlauncher_acid3.png\" alt=\"QtLauncher showing Second Acid Test #3\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/qtlauncher_acid4.png\" alt=\"QtLauncher showing Second Acid Test #4\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It goes further down when you shrink even more.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the Gtk port is not as good.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/gdklauncher_acid.png\" alt=\"GdkLauncher showing Second Acid Test\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It also does the \"going down when shrinking\" thing.<\/p>\n<p><b>Update :<\/b> Apparently, the \"going down when shrinking\" thing is a <a href=\"https:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=289480#c123\">known \"feature\"<\/a> of the Acid Test.<\/p>\n<p><b>Update :<\/b> The reason why the Gtk port is not fully passing the test is that while there is a KIOslave for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ietf.org\/rfc\/rfc2397.txt\">data url scheme<\/a>, curl doesn't support it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Someone in the &#8220;Why no Opera?&#8221; thread on the debian-devel list mentioned tkhtml\/hv3, and how it passed the Acid Test (though he didn&#8217;t mention if it was the first or the second Acid Test).
